My First E Pro Experience

                                                                          My First E Pro Experience

On the 8th of May E Pro 8 was so kind to us that they gave us a chance to learn how engineering works. On the first day of week 2 we walked in the class and found E Pro 8 boxes in our class. They were shaped like coffin boxes but it was sort of like a rectangular shape.  They were 25 kilos and there were 6 boxes. It also came along with booklets.

Our teacher said we have to sit in a circle so he can give us the instructions, the booklets had a team code on it, and we had to go on to the E Pro 8 website  to type in our team code, after we did that we had to have a team name, this is our team name J.J.G. engineers used our initials on the first part, after we did that we had to watch a video, so we can know how to use the tools inside the box.

After watching the video our first task was to make a box, but we had to make it the same so it can be solid, after that we had to take it apart, when we did  our teacher told the first group finish will win but we had to be careful with how we put  the objects inside because it may hurt someone if we leave it around the classroom.

Some time later we finished, but we were not first, but it does not matter. He gave us an activity that has to do with measurement. We have to throw water bottles and see how far it goes. Each time we throw it we have to spill some water out of the water bottle.

During the activity everyone was having fun then our teacher told us to come into class and sit on the mat, when we did he told us our next activity we can do,  this activity was to build a tree hut and it had to be 700mm high because when it comes to the test which the flood will be 500mm  it has to be solid and high above the ground so the water can’t touch it.

Making a tree hut took us 2 or 3 days to make, in the E Pro 8 boxes there were 700mm pieces of metal, and 400mm pieces of metal, and 200mm pieces of metal and some red joiners to stick the pieces of metal together, and blue joiners to make the pieces of metal move,

All of those objects were what  we used to make our hut. We also had to find some pieces of cupboard to put on  the roof so it can really look like a tree hut.

Our tree hut was looking perfect including the other groups tree huts, it was going all well,  some of them finished and some did not but my group finished our tree hut, but the most best part we had to take it down so we can move onto the next activity, after we finished we had to come sit on the mat so our teacher can lay out the instructions, because  it was almost time for us to go home so he told the next day we will be building a garbage truck.

The next day we were all excited to make a garbage truck, as soon as the bell rang to get to class to start the day, we all went running into the classroom  to what we can start doing first, but we had to do prayers before we get into making the garbage truck, straight after prayers our teacher gave us some instructions to do we had to fill in some questions in the booklets, and know what a cab looks like.

First of my group was only a group of 3 one was missing,  so there were only the  2 of us that had to work. on building a garbage truck, the other person had to do the cab well I had to do the back of the garbage, it was so hard because I had to find out how to make the tray part go back so we can dump the garbage in the dump area, it took me some time to figure it out. Some time later I’ve already finished doing the back of the garbage truck and making it all the same so it can be solid when we push it around the class.

After that I went to do the cab with my other partner but it was to late so we had to pack up everything before we go home, so I just put a few parts on the cab and made it solid so it doesn’t end up falling all apart when we try to test it if it can move or dump, so we  don’t need to check those part again, the next day we did the same as we do everyday say prayers and carry on making our garbage truck.

After lunch my group and I were finally finished, and the same as the other group so our teacher told us to come together as a group so he can take some photos, so the other group went first and then we came second, after all of those we putted on cardboard so it can look like a garbage truck, after that we had to take  the garbage truck apart because we were done and the bell was about to ring, so we can all go home.

So we took all the bits apart and place them carefully in the E Pro 8

boxes, and we  had to take the cardboard boxes in the bin after all of that, I was so proud of what I made, and we also played some games to make us feel happy well we’re going home, It was so sad that we only got to do all those activities  for a week before we return it, but we were all happy we got to experience engineering.

                                                                               Here are some photos

Fair chocolate

During term 1 my reading group and I have been learning what chocolate is made out of.   This is what I learned about chocolate, chocolate is made out of cacao beans and  and cacao beans grow on trees, lots of farmers them and they sell it to the chocolate factory but some can keep it and make their own cacao beans are mostly found in Africa,  before you they take of the cacao beans you have to wait until their are quite burned, and that is all I know but in each of our reading groups we had to make a poster about it

here is a  photo.

What ANZAC day means to me

What ANZAC day means to me

When it is ANZAC day I feel happy because  it feels like a day off and it means I can eat biscuits all day, and I go shopping on those days, also on ANZAC day I like to sleep and sometimes my sisters and I will always spend some time together and my brothers will do the same thing too.

While were of we will normally buy ANZAC biscuits and we will  also go to the beach or we will also have BBQ, we love it when we have family time together because it will always be fun, ANZAC day is one of my days in my life,  sometimes it can be sad for other families, but  I am looking forward to ANZAC day.

ANZAC day is great and can be sad at the same time because the soldiers died for  our whenua and

also died in the field of poppies so RIP.

Preparing for Athletics Day on 18 November

After morning tea my classmates and I went to the field and met coach Bart and some of us went and grabbed our water  bottles and then  we came right back and sat on the stone wall.  He introduced himself first as coach Bart, and then he gave us some instructions. We played sheepdogs which was so fun but some of the warm up exercises were hard like when we had to bend low, look straight and run on our heels and toes.

Mrs Agnew took some pictures of us while we were all running in a circle around cones. We were playing a game similar to tag but we used noodles. The coach said “don’t hit the head.” We had to hit below the waist or their legs. If they do hit you you have to come out and run 1 time around the square and then you are able to go back to the game.

After that we learned how to sprint. You also have to keep your arms and legs pumping  so it can give you energy while you are sprinting. After we learned all the rules about how to sprint. We played a different game and it was another similar game to  tag and we also sprinted in this game too.

We had to run back and forward  only when coach Bart says “ready set go” but he doesn’t say ‘go’ because he claps. We played another game and it was all about jumping as far as we could. He gave us some beanbags  and he said “jump and where you land place your bean bag there.” It took me a very long time to jump past my bean bag. Then coach Bart said just pump your legs and arms and and swing them and you will feel yourselves jump further. It worked for me.

After that we had to gather all up as a team. Meanwhile room 8 and room 7 came to have their turn, so we  said our good byes and said what we had learned. It was hard to talk because we were very hot and thirsty.

Finally we went back to the path and drank some water and some of us put on our jumpers and put their shoes back on their feet. We were all hot but we got to learn new skills for athletics day. Even though we were all exhausted, we were still happy and I hope we can do that again some time soon.

Here are some photos of us.

Making our class movie.

During term 3 we have been making potato people with all sorts of materials like tooth picks, googly eyes, material. On my potato I  used glue to stick everything down securely. I was so excited to hear that we were making the potato people to use in our class movie. We all came up with good ideas to make our potato people and when we were finished our potatoes looked so awesome.  So now we just had to make the movie props.

Making our own movie was easy because we all took turns on being Director, Camera Person, scene manager, and editor and we took lots of photos and we had to move the potatoes a little bit after each photo. Each time we became the director we all made great choices. We didn’t get to be an editor but we got to  do some of the bits of the other roles to make a movie.  We were all proud of ourselves.

Now we are making our background props. My group  did the party scene and we had to paint and decorate the inside of a party room in a palace. We used small balloons and ribbons and our teacher went and bought some little gift  boxes  and we searched up some photos of party food. We had so much  fun making the party props it was so much fun.

We had to set out the props to make our movie. First we voted for the name for the title of our movie and it was “The stolen princess. Our cyber smart teacher Ms Toland  took each group to the library to make their part of the movie. My group went first and it was so cool. We had to take pictures and use our voices so it could look like the potatoes are talking. We had so much fun  and then we had to go back to class.

I hope my group can do it again and I hope everyone enjoys the movie Rm 6 has made.
